The Beauty Secrets of Millionaire Matches

I’ve had close encounters with reality show stars before, but never quite like this. Two people I know and speak to on a regular basis were on The Millionaire Matchmaker, a show I’ve never seen since I don’t own a TV and try my best to avoid the time-suck of Hulu.

But shows like these penetrate our mainstream culture so well that I heard about them and of my friends’ reality stardom quite quickly. Allison, who attends my program at NYU, was cast through a friend of a classmate. Jimmy, my co-worker, was minding his own business at a bar when a gaggle of girls + one gay recruited him for the show.

I find it mindblowing that the people I know can have such presence and good looks that random strangers would recruit them to go on dates with millionaires. And yes, admittedly, I’m slightly jealous. So I probed them for their beauty secrets.

Allison, it turns out, swears by this oil called lanolin, often found in the baby aisle of drugstores sold as Lansinoh. It’s marketed for breastfeeding mothers with irritated mammary glands, but she uses it to fight the dry NYC winters.

“I call it nipple cream,” she tells me. “It’s great stuff. Use often and share!”

Jimmy was much more elusive with his beauty regimen. He claims he just moisturizes and let nature do the rest. I will not be sharing my nipple cream with him.
